Violence against Girls, Boys and Women in Southern Africa: A statistical profile

November 30, 2023

UNICEF, in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community (SADC),  has released a new publication featuring the latest data from national surveys to document the prevalence of violence against children and women in the region. It also includes a special analysis that explores the intersection between violence against children and violence against women.

The analysis confirms that violence in the region remains pervasive and persistent, affecting the lives of millions of individuals. It also provides evidence that shifting prevailing attitudes and disrupting social norms around violence hold untapped potential to effect change. The publication concludes by urging SADC Member States to take action and support progress in ending violence against girls, boys and women through a series of high-level actions focused on universal prevention, responding to and preventing recurrence of violence and supporting initiatives to reach those at greatest risk of violence.
