How many children are on the move today? Where do they come from, where are they going and how many are crossing borders? How many are on the move because of conflict, violence and other human rights violations? How many have been displaced by disasters?
10 Facts about Children on the Move, an annual brochure produced by the International Data Alliance for Children on the Move (IDAC), answers these questions and more.
Using the latest available statistics, 10 Facts about Children on the Move shares a critical set of data visualizations, succinct analyses and top-line messages about migrant and displaced children today. It highlights key characteristics of this population of children, including estimates of their numbers, the drivers of their movement – including forced displacement – and patterns of origin and residence, while also drawing attention to the data gaps that leave many of these children invisible and at risk.
Designed for researchers, policymakers and organizations working in migration, displacement and child rights, this resource serves as an advocacy tool to help ensure the rights of children on the move are included in policies and programming. It also underscores the need for sustained investment in statistical systems to ensure every child on the move is visible, counted and protected.
Please note that the December 2025 version of the brochure contains the most up-to-date data.
