Fulfilling the Commitment to Child Protection in Ghana

August 2021

Child protection in Ghana has long been hindered by a lack of reliable data. However, in recent years, notable progress has been made in documenting the extent and seriousness of various child rights violations in the country. UNICEF has reviewed the latest available data to prepare this report and highlight key child protection issues requiring action: unregistered births, children without parental care, violence (both offline and online), child labor, and harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation. The report also explores child poverty, which can increase children’s vulnerability to rights violations. Gathering credible data on violence and exploitation is an essential first step toward ending these abuses. We hope the findings presented here will serve as an important resource to advance our collective efforts.
